what you don’t know about most “designer” perfumes on the market is that they were made by cheap synthetic chemicals that cost only a fraction of your so-called luxury perfume. these synthetic chemicals do not have to be disclosed in the fragrance industry, hence as consumers you are constantly exposed to chemicals that you are not even aware of.

so… tell me what’s so luxurious about the perfume when your health is endangered.

craftsmanship, some people may say. I cannot disagree with you. Perfumers spend decades perfecting their sense to learn the language of scent. it’s never just about smelling good, but about evoking emotions/feelings/stories through their craftsmanship and expertise. there is no shortcut to let these perfumers’ creativity mature because true luxury comes from the unseen hours of discipline.

however, the definition of craftsmanship may even change over the coming years as AI technology slowly seeps into the fragrance industry. if craftsmanship means long-hour dedication, Scentalytics, an AI Perfume Creator, is currently rewriting the definition. who would have thought the fragrance industry would have its own ChatGPT! with this being said, isn’t it interesting to see how craftsmanship will evolve?

of course, we cannot forget about branding, probably the most important piece that creates luxury… but that’s another long spiel until next time :)
